on the court verdict against Karakalpak activist Dauletmurat Tazhimuratov
The Protection of Rights Without Borders NGO, along with 18 other member organizations of the Civic Solidarity Platform (CSP), has joined a statement condemning the court verdict against Karakalpak activist Dauletmurat Tazhimuratov.
In the joint statement, the organizations strongly condemn the decision of the Uzbek court to extend the prison sentence of the non-violent activist from 16 to 18.5 years. The proceedings were marred by serious due process violations and reports of severe mistreatment and abuse against him in prison.
The signatory organizations call on the international community to take immediate steps to address the human rights situation in Karakalpakstan. They demand that the Government of Uzbekistan immediately release Mr. Tazhimuratov and end the criminal and administrative prosecution of residents who call for his release.
