12 Complaint Applications against Armenia: The European Court of Human Rights Publishes the Statistics of the Previous Year

The European Court of Human Rights made 12 decisions in regard to Armenia during 2017, 11 of which were recognized as violation of one provision of the European Convention of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms.

In general, at the moment there are 1.819 complaint application at the ECHR submitted by Armenia, which is the 3.2 % of the whole applications at the Court. Thus, Armenian is among the top states waiting for the discussion of the complaint-applications. 140 complaint-applications have already been communicated.

Today, the ECHR published the activity results for 2017. During the annual press conference of the Court, Guido Raimondi, the President of the ECHR summarized the year of the Court for 2017 and presented statistical data. Accordingly, 356 new complaint applications were submitted to European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg, which is by 50% less than 753 complaint applications submitted during 2016.

During 2017 the ECHR received on the whole 58.951 complaint applications, which is by 123 % more compared with 2016. Decisions, in regard to 15.595 applications, were made and in regard to the 70.356 applications proceedings were not instituted.

During the previous year, the ECHR made decisions in regard to 1068 cases. At least violation of one article of the Convention was recognized by 85 %.

The right to fair trail and freedom, right to security were mostly violated and in regard to which 414 verdicts were made by the European Court of Human Rights.
