Workshop: The implementation of the case laws of the European court of human rights in the RA courts

“Protection of Rights without Borders” NGO held a workshop on the topic “The Implementation of the Case Law of the European Court of Human Rights” at Best Western Congress Hotel from 15 to 19 September. The target audience of the workshop included lawyers, law experts and other professionals in the field of law. At the beginning of the workshop, an evaluation of the participants’ needs was conducted.

The participants were asked to talk about their experience of implementing the case laws of the European Court of Human Rights and the possible problems that may arise in this process. The president of PRWB, Siranush Sahakian, touched upon the concept of case law and its role in the RA. Ms. Sahakian also presented the findings of the research conducted by the NGO, focusing on the major problems and regularities of implementing case laws.

The second part of the workshop was dedicated to the development of the participants’ practical skills. At this stage, the participants learnt about the principles and technicalities of implementing search in the case law database of the European Court of Human Rights. When commenting on the workshop, the participants especially stressed the usefulness of this part of the workshop for their future career activities. During the second part of the workshop a number of group discussions were held on the implementation of case laws. The young lawyers studied the case laws presented and suggested ways to implement them in similar cases of human rights violations.
