Hasmik Harutyunyan, Legal Expert at Protection of Rights Without Borders NGO, participated as a speaker in the panel discussion \u201cVoices of Justice: Women Leading Change in Human Rights,\u201d organized by the American University of Armenia on March 6. \n<\/p>\n\n

During the discussion, she addressed existing gaps in the protection of women\u2019s rights in Armenia, noting that despite legislative progress, including the Law on the Prevention of Domestic Violence, challenges remain, particularly in the comprehensive criminalisation of gender-based violence and the effective enforcement of protection mechanisms. \n<\/p>\n\n

She also highlighted the role of civil society in promoting gender equality, emphasizing the importance of monitoring legislation, documenting gaps in practice, and contributing to policy development.<\/p>\n\n

Drawing from her experience in prison monitoring, she reflected on the challenges women professionals may face in traditionally male-dominated environments, where authority exercised by women often requires additional effort to be recognised.<\/p>\n\n
