Penitentiary System
Within its activities, the Organization has implemented a number of initiatives to ensure human rights protection in penitentiary system.
In 2015, the Organization conducted an assessment on the budgeting and financial expenses of the penitentiary institutions with the emphasis on the right to decent accommodation of a human.
In 2013, a research directed towards the effectiveness raising of the rights of detained women in Armenia was conducted by the Organization, during which the living conditions for women in “Abovyan” penitentiary institutions, the legal and practice grounds for alternative punishment application against the women were studied.
Since 2013, the Organization has been a member of the Public Oversight Group Conducting Oversights in the Penitentiary Institutions under the RA Ministry of Justice. Based on the calls made in regard to the violations of detainees’ rights, the organization members has made many visits to the penitentiary institutions.
The Organization has participated in the elaboration process of the researches on “Methadone substitution treatment. Characteristics in the Penitentiary Institutions under the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Armenia” and “Peculiarities of Early Conditional Release System in the Republic of Armenia” respectively. The Organization has constantly submitted its opinions on different legal initiatives and draft laws.
